Red Sonja awakens in a camp hidden deep in the forest, brought back from death by the high priest, Fa. Fa had used The Blade of the Vaven, a magic blade that made her appear dead. The blade must be returned to the idol it came from otherwise Sonja faces true death. Fa is secretly the head of the resistance against the Celestial One and his evil god. He believes Sonja is destined to kill the Celestial One and save the land. Red Sonja, Osin and others set out on a quest to return the blade to the idol, but are betrayed by one of their own.
Meanwhile, the Celestial One sends a flood to destroy the Zedda tribes, who have refused his evil god.
After Osin saves Red Sonja by placing the blade back in the idol, they are met by a group of surviving Zeddas, who know Sonja's name.
