In this climactic conclusion to the four-issue miniseries, Dr. Sivana, having discovered that Captain Marvel is actually the young Billy Batson, orchestrates a deadly ambush. He sends mercenaries to attack Billy in the subway tunnels, forcing him to transform into Captain Marvel. During the ensuing battle, Billy's best friend, Scott Okum, is tragically killed in the crossfire.

Overcome with grief and rage, Captain Marvel confronts Sivana and nearly kills him in a fit of vengeance. Superman intervenes, confronting Billy at Mount Everest, where he learns of Billy's true identity and the burdens he bears as a child hero. Disturbed by this revelation, Superman seeks out the Wizard Shazam to question the wisdom of bestowing such immense power upon a child. The issue concludes with Clark Kent visiting Billy at his flophouse, revealing his own secret identity in a gesture of trust and offering guidance to the young hero.
