Action Comics Annual #6 is an Elseworlds anthology featuring two standout Superman tales:
1. “Legacy” (written, penciled, inked, and lettered by John Byrne)
In this alternate history, a fully grown Kryptonian ancestor from the House of El—Gar-El—arrives on Earth during the American War of Independence and throws his weight behind the British Empire. Over time he becomes a totalitarian ruler, suppressing freedom in the name of order. Two centuries later, his descendant, a mainly human Kal-El, leads a rebellion, embodying Superman’s ideals against the oppressive legacy of power.
2. “Doomsday for the Fifth Dimension” (script by Louise Simonson, plot and art by Dennis Janke)
In this offbeat backup, Superman’s rocket veers into the bizarre Fifth Dimension, where an adult Kal-El rampages unknowingly. The impish denizens, led by Mr. Mxyzptlk, trick him with slapstick tactics—knocking him over, sealing his rocket, and flinging him back home.
