Reality has been repeatedly threatened by the collected power of the Infinity Gems. Reed decides it's time for the Illuminati to do something about this, and asks for their help in collecting the three gems he hasn't already obtained. They aren't comfortable with the idea, but they're less comfortable with the idea of anyone else having them.
