The Owl, a criminal trying to maintain appearances of legitimacy, has framed his accountant for his own crimes. Distraught, the accountant is killed while crossing the street. Police find evidence against the Owl in his possession, and they bring the Owl in on charges. He hires Matt Murdock to defend him, and ends up skipping his own trial. Matt pursues him as Daredevil, a task made easy when the Owl comes to Matt's office looking for a lawyer and kidnaps Karen. To protect her, Daredevil surrenders. They are taken to the Owl's aviary, where they are caged and suspended from the ceiling. Daredevil breaks them out and pursues the Owl. The Owl escapes underwater where Daredevil can't follow, but his gang has been rounded up.
