This issue concludes the five-part "Crisis of Conscience" arc, which serves as a direct sequel to Identity Crisis and a prelude to Infinite Crisis. The storyline delves into the repercussions of the Justice League's decision to mind-wipe villains—and even Batman—to protect their secret identities.
In this finale, the alien telepath Despero manipulates the League's internal conflicts, turning members against each other within the Batcave. As Despero's influence spreads, the League faces a critical test of trust and unity. The resolution sets the stage for the events of Infinite Crisis.
The entire "Crisis of Conscience" arc (JLA #115–119) is collected in JLA Vol. 18: Crisis of Conscience, which compiles the storyline leading up to Infinite Crisis.
