In his earlier days, Batman volunteered to assist in sensory deprivation research, shut away in an isolation chamber for days. The data gathered in that experiment was used in a joint project between the Gotham City Police Department and the US military. There was concern as to what would happen if the Batman's war on crime ever took his life.
In an attempt to build a contingency plan, three Gotham police officers were chosen in an attempt to train new Batmen that could be activated if the original was ever killed in action. Now Bruce Wayne is trapped, a prisoner of the third and most dangerous of those men.
But what does he want? And why have all three of these men struck so close together? And perhaps, most disturbingly, why didn't Bruce remember any of this?
