International law prohibits development in endangered species habitats, so some developers have a solution: they'll use a neurotoxin called Xyklon-C to eliminate the endangered species. The "Friends of Earth Nature Magic Alliance" took their story to the press, with proof, but a bribe kept it from seeing print. The toxin's developer, Professor Underhill, is walking in Gotham when kidnappers try to take him; they're violently stopped by the new Batman (Jean-Paul Valley). Catwoman changes into a disguise so she can return to the group as Selina, and also equips one of her cats with a volume amplifier collar. At the Friends' headquarters, Underhill explains that the neurotoxin must be mixed with an activator, and the process is complex. Two of the Friends make off with his notes and van; they plan to mix the poison and deploy it at a trade show where the developers will discuss their plans. Selina determines to stop them. She finds the warehouse and the Xyklon-C, and also finds a similar barrel with a different chemical she plans to use as a decoy. What she does not realize is that Batman is watching her and coming to the wrong conclusions...
