In “Grand Design!”, the original X-Men — Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel and Beast — now operating as X-Factor, travel to the Soviet Union to deliver a public lecture on their mutant status. While there, they uncover a covert experiment by the Soviet tech-scientists to create mutant weapons. A confrontation with the Crimson Dynamo and a newly appearing villain, the Doppelgänger, forces the team to battle both ideological and physical threats within Moscow’s walls, marking an early “team‐on‐mission” vibe for the newly formed X-Factor.
